199 Cemeteries to See Before You Die. It’s a full-color hard cover encyclopedia of cemeteries around the world, looking at everything from statuary to landscaping to famous people (like Edgar Allan Poe) to ghost stories.
Loren gave a lecture at this year’s StokerCon about vampires, ghosts, and the devil in graveyards. She is writing a column about cemeteries for the Horror Writers Association’s newsletter and has written cemetery columns for Gothic Beauty and Gothic.Net. She writes a blog about graveyards as vacation destinations at CemeteryTravel.com.
Loren writes fiction, too. One of her stories appears in this year’s Best New Horror.
Connie Johnson Hambley grew up on a small dairy farm just north of New York City. In 1965, an arsonist burned her family’s barn to the ground. From that experience grew the story that became The Charity. A retrospective on the fire can be found here.
Hambley writes about strong women from their perspective in situations that demand the most from them. No special powers, no gadgets, no super human abilities. Just a woman caught up or embroiled in something that she has to get out of, hopefully alive.
Every bit of personal experience is used to create a story that is as believable as it is suspenseful. Using her law and investment background in ways unique, creative, but not altogether logical, Hambley has enjoyed robust professional pursuits that include writing for Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Nature Biotechnology and MassHighTech. Experience at a major bank in Boston introduced her to clever schemes dreamed up to launder money.
Hambley writes page-turners. The Charity is first in The Jessica Trilogy, followed by its sequel, The Troubles. The final book in the trilogy, The Wake, was published September 2017.
World-class equestrian, Jessica Wyeth, is thrust into the middle of a game of geopolitical warfare. Reeling from revelations of her connection to the violent struggles to expunge Britain from Northern Ireland, she’s blocked by unseen forces from returning to the United States.
The facts of Jessica’s birth become her deepest secret. Her late mother was considered by Northern Ireland to be a terrorist and her father is a key negotiator between violent Irish Republican Army (IRA) factions in Belfast and the British Government.
Jessica vows to keep her father’s identity hidden at all costs.
Only one man knows Jessica’s truth. Michael Connaught, heir to an international crime family who profits from political uprisings, struggles with his own legacy. He is torn between protecting the woman he loves or using her secrets as a catalyst for inciting global unrest.
When a terrorist bomb rips through the crowd at the Atlanta-based Summer Olympic Games, Jessica is forced to fight for her life in ways she never dreamed.
