Each story needs a setting. It anchors your reader to time and place, season, lighting and lets her keep her bearings.

Even in Space the Ships agree on Up 

Even if it only shows up in your notes there are some things to consider in your settings.

  • Time and Place
  • Temperature and Season
  • Lighting, Sounds and Smells
  • Symbols and Images

The following prompt or writing exercise includes a randomly generated time of day, location, weather and atmosphere. From the Webpage Create a Setting.

  • It’s mid-morning.
  • There’s bright sunshine.
  • You’re in a forest.
  • There’s a cold feel to the place.
